There are thousand and one products in the market that make you look younger and attractive and to pamper and nourish your skin. But these products are meant for certain skin types and different climatic conditions. For example, there are moisturizers to protect your skin from drying and provides it with essential vitamins.

Dry skin Care : moisture to your skin

Just with the arrival of colder months most us face the problem of dry skin. In medical terms it is called xeroderma (literally means "dry skin"). The hot air inside and cold air outside causes a low humidity. Skin looses its moisture and may crack or peel. Skin gets a parched look caused by its inability to retain moisture. Since oil glands do not supply enough lubrication to skin, it looks dull especially on cheeks.

Dry skin has a low level of sebum hence it is also prone to sensitivity. Bathing/showering too frequently, especially when you are using harsh soaps may also lead to the problem of dry skin. Deficiencies of vitamin A, overexposure to sunlight, systemic illness are also few reasons which can cause dry skin syndrome.

Taking care of dry skin

Taking care of dry skin is not a complicated process. There are very easy methods by which you can battle the problem of dry skin. Dry skins need plenty of through but gentle cleansing, regular stimulation with massage and generous quantities of oil and moisture. It also needs extra careful protection. Moisturizers are an absolute must for dry skins; it increases the water content of outer layer of the skin and gives it a soft, moist look.

Use cleansers with non-detergent and neutral ph products. After the bath/shower apply baby oil gently. Give special care to the areas surrounding eyes, elbows, lower legs, arms, the sides of the abdomen and thighs. If possible avoid coming in contact with highly alkaline soaps and detergents like washing sodas and powder which contain highly alkaline and detergent ingredients.

Get rid of dead skin. Most "dry skin" is actually skin that is ready to fall off. Exfoliation therefore should be a regular activity of your skin care regimen. Exfoliation helps the other skin products work more effectively. While moisturizers can replace what is lost, they are not ideal solution, as they cannot prevent the body from absorbing chemicals.

So the point is, even if you are using moisturizers and other beauty products to cope with the problem of dry skin even then you need to be cautious about the things you come in contact with. Smoking also can make the skin dry and leathery. It actually deprives the skin of the oxygen and nutrients required for good health. So, if you are smoker, better to leave this habit the soonest possible.

Your eating habits can also bring a lot difference to the quality of your skin. People having the problem of dry skin are advised to have a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds and nuts. Eat quality protein and increase the intake of raw foods. Drink 2 quarts of water everyday to keep the skin well hydrated.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine to the level possible. Also try to avoid fried foods, animal fats and heat produce vegetable oils. Heating oils leads to the production of free radicals, which have a destructive effect on the skin eventually leading to dryness.
Beauty lies in the eyes of beholder, they say. But ponder over it and you will believe this notion seems to be vague, because since time immemoriable nobody looks for the beauty in the eyes of beholder but want to look young and beautiful .
